Thirty-seven years ago, all plank owners were given a new USS Tarawa LHA-1 Eagle of the Sea plank owners' hat. As soon as I got mine, I put it in a box and mail it to my father. When my father received it, he put it in a trunk and forgot about it. Today, Mary Lou, my sister, and I were going through my parents' belongings. My sister called me over to a trunk she was going through and showed me what she found. Yep, a brand new, never been worn, thirty-seven year old plank owners' Eagle of the Sea hat! "Wow, are you kidding me", I said to her. I did not put the hat on! It has never been worn. It really looks brand new, and it is thirty-seven years old! There is not one speck of dust on it. I am very, very happy. It now adorns Mystic Belle's beautiful head. I feel like Howard Carter!

I believe it is the camera, because all the other original hats have regular size bills, and this hat is just like the others.

I think it's an optical illusion because the bill is flat.

Yes I did Rick. But look VERY closely at the way the stitching has been done between the two. The one you gave your Dad is more of a professional job.

Rick, this is a better view of what I'm trying to explain. If I had a closer view of the 'Original' it would really show the better stitching.

I would rather spend a little more for the stitching to be like the top picture. I'm going to go out this weekend and find some hats and get my three patches sewn on and I will send you the pictures.

I know exactly what you're saying. My problem would be, I would give the new patches and hats to the same company to sew the patches on that sewed the patch on the hat above. I agree with you. The original hat definitely has beautiful stitching. I may not be able to find a local company able to stitch that professionally. Therein lies the problem. I can avoid the unprofessional stitching by having the patch embroidered correctly on the hat. I should get the hat in a couple of weeks to look at. I will take a picture of it and a video, too, if necessary, to look at the detail.

I don't necessarily want to have to send 100 hats and 100 patches off in the mail to another company that can sew the patches on the hats professionally. That is added cost I would not want to pay. I could avoid that by paying more for the patches to be embroidered correctly on the hat.

I just got an email from the company that embroidered the test hat. They just shipped it to me. They included this picture of it in the email. I will take a very close picture of it when it arrives here. This is the picture. What do you think?

There will always be a seam down the middle, but I know what you're saying. When I get it, I will make a video of it. I will get very close to the hat.

I am not sure if the eagle is off center. I will have to place all three hats side by side by side in a video, too. I cannot do much if the eagle is off center. Lucky for me, my head is crooked. So, the eagle will look centered, hee, hee!

Thanks, uva7. It has been a very long plank owners hat journey, but I have found out in life, I have always enjoyed the journeys to my goals. Getting there is half the fun.
