I only remember special meals for the Navy's birthday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

We may have celebrated the Marine's birthday, too.

I don't remember celebrating anything onboard the USS Tarawa LHA-1. I only remember a couple of Thanksgiving Day meals. As far as decorating for Christmas, Halloween, New Years, etc.......I don't recall any of that. I don't know why, I just don't.

...........And NO, I never got a birthday meal either. I had (2) birthdays aboard the USS Tarawa LHA-1. I remember hearing about it at some point, but it never bothered me to mention it to anyone at the time. Now I'm PISSED..............Lmao!

I remember first marine birthday ever there was only 5 or6 marine's on board. capt. church  got the ships company together on the mess decks then then had the cake brought out to the marines, we used the oldest marine & youngest sailor.  I think it was right after we got to san diego.

Ya know, I was probably one of the luckiest guys in the navy. I never spent a Christmas, Easter or thanksgiving at sea.

Allen, I remember that, too. That was a few years ago.

I spent four Thanksgivings, four Christmases, and three Easters on Navy facilities (OS-A School/PRECOMM) and Tarawa. I still remember walking up to phone booths at the edge of a Navy pier calling my parents and wishing them a happy holiday. It was a sad time. But it was only for four years. I can stand on my head for four years.
