Went to the Gun Show.  Picked up a Walther PK380 for the wife.  I can't get them here in Stupidfornia.  I asked the guy if he was a dealer or a private party.  He said private party.  We agreed on a price.  He asked for ID so I pulled out my CA DL.  He said I can't sell it to you because of CA rules.  We talked a little more and I mentioned I was retired Navy.  He said you have a retired ID?  I said yup, whipped it out and he said put away the DL and we can talk.  So I did. Then I mentioned I have a house in Henderson, NV and he asked if I had proof. I whipped out my homeowners insurance policy (because the wife shredded all of the utility bills). He said thank you for your service, I will sell this to you.  After we did the deal and he wrote a bill of sale, he said he used to live in Palo Alta, and has a lot of respect for the military and a lot of empathy for anyone living in California who want to be gun owners.

The wife was pleased (bonus points for Steve!!)  [smile]

Nope, Rick. Not at all.  I can't wait until I can retire and leave.  I have 2 long range target rifles I want to buy.  I can get them here in California, but they have all of the California requirements applied (bullet button, 10 rd max mag, 1 classified as an "assault weapon").
