I was one of the first 90 assigned to the ship - didn't see it for over 10 months later. Busy training at every Navy training school that was available. Finally got sent to the ship. Pascagoula was unique - and not always in a good way. First separation from family, too. Remember the OPs officer's girlfriend while we were in Pascagoula? Then she showed up in San Diego.  Then there was Burton & Todd. You never knew what they were going to get up to. & then they just disappeared. Never got to deploy on Tarawa but made it through the canal and to Acapulco. Then we had all the work ups including the explosion stress test. What fun.
