uva7, that would depend on when you went to boot camp. The M1 Garand weighs in at just over 9 pounds if memory serves. It is the rifle still used today by the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon.

When I went to into boot camp in June of '68 we used the M14. It was during the late 60s - early 70s when the M16 went into service in Viet Nam.

Well, I feel like a dummy now. I totally could not follow all of the movements of the rifle. I guess I'm not very mechanical.

Here is what we had at Boot Camp. Can anyone tell me what model rifle this was? I went to boot camp in 1975. I would like to see if I could buy one.

If it was a bolt action rifle, it wasn't an M1.

We're getting off topic here. Let's start other discussions in the appropriate locations within the forums. This was for the topic of the M1 Garand.

I told my recruiter I would only go to boot camp in Orlando, Florida. I got to train with the girls, too! I went in April 1975.
