so , here is a interesting story , of just how small the world is, and wondering if something like this has happened to any of you..

my brother in law moves from   las vegas to florida (3 weeks ago), while exploring he stops in the yatch club just down the street from his new house . (my wifes family sailed and basicaly grew up at the yatch club in sfo)

he gets to talking to the guys at the club and askes if anyone is looking to pick up a crew member for wed night races...    one guy says sure , i need a guy.    so my brother in law races with him the next week and joins the boat as a crew member.

pictures start getting posted to fb, and i notice the guy who my brother in law is racing with is also friends with my sister who lives in annapolis maryland.

so i get curious and make a call to my sister to find out what the connection is...    turnes out , the guy who ownes the boat , is my sisters ex husband ..

so my brother in law    (wifes brother).....   is racing with my ex brother in law (sisters ex husband)  and working along side my nephew .

my sister is 12 years older and  i never knew her ex -  if it haddent been for fb, i would have never made the connection....

While mine isn't quite was exciting.

Back in June of 68, there were a bunch of us that left San Antonio, Tx for Marine Corps boot camp in San Diego.

Fast forward 30 or so years.

There are two of us that made that trip in 68, living in 29 Palms, Ca. We both retired, but never crossed paths during our respective 20 year careers.

This happened today. I was at King Soopers picking up a couple of things, I was wearing one of my Carrier hats, USS America CV-66.  This kid (20 something) stopped me up by the checkouts and asked if I had served on the America.  In talking, his dad served aboard in 81 or 82.  I was aboard in 79.

To date, I've met a Postman who served on the Coral Sea CV-43, a guy at Home Depot who was on the Tarawa in 89 (tried to get him to get online) and now this guy's dad on the America.  3 different guys, one from each of my ships.

The people we've got don't seem to be too active anymore either.  You, me and Charles are all I see any more.

I might open a thread where I'm the only person so I can get the last 7 posts for TARAWA!  Wife thinks I talk to myself too much anyway.  What does she know?

Yeah, what does she know???

Yeah, I'm not that active either.  I go through 300-400 emails a day at work.  By the time I get home, I'm totally brain dead.  At this rate, I will never get my TARAWA hat.  HAHAHA  [smile]

steve,  unless the forum goes out, you will get there.    the trick has always been getting a hot topic.   trivia has helped out a bunch (  even learned a few things)  .   the point is that you havent gone over the side yet...    slow and steady ..

Never thought I would make it but the contest helped a lot, and like uva7 stated learned some new things and remembered a lot of old movies.
