Nice!

My son flew in for thanksgiving. He brought the upper receiver and barrel for his new AR. A 300 Blackout.

I knew nothing about this, but he had info with him. It was developed for the military as a quick, cheap upgrade for the 5.56.

Basically, it's a .308 bullet married to a shortened 5.56 case. To convert a .223/5.56 AR, all you have to do is swap out the barrel and ensure you have the correct gas tube.

There are sub-sonic rounds for use with suppressors as well as super-sonic good for up to 300 yards.

I'm considering getting a barrel and maybe an upper receiver. Depends on how I like shooting his.

Well, the 300 Blackout shot real nice.  Here's the link to the wikipedia page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/300_AAC_Blackout_(7.62%C3%9735mm)

A 180gr is slower than a 30-30, but it's legal to use in Colorado for Deer and Antelope.  No way I'd use it for anything bigger.

I doubt that I'll get one.  I'd rather get a .308/7.62.  Maybe a Springfield M1A1 or a Remington 700.  If the 700, then I can trick it out nicely for the same price as the M1A1.

I shot the M14 while on active duty, way back when and really loved it compared to the M16. I do own an M1A "loaded" model as well as a Remmington 770 w/scope and just got an M&P 15.

Still partial to the M1 Garand and M14.
