32 years ago today.

I was on the Tarawa, in the middle of the IO on my way home, when we got the news about the bombing.

We had left Beirut just 12 days before.

If they would have turned us around and sent us back, I probably would have reenlisted to stay with the ship.

I was there too.  It was a tense time.  Listening to the reports over Fleet Secure Voice in Radio.  And when the word was given to the Crew, I noticed there was a shipwide hush.  Lots of whispers, small conversations about what happened and what should happen.  Very different from the normal "noise" among the Crew and Embarked Marines.

It’s now been 35 years. I’ll never forget.
