Imagine a ship built to get Marines into combat without a well-deck, here it is LHA-6 USS America. Why call it amphibious when it doesn't have a well-deck? See more below:

It will still get marines to the beach just with v-22 , helos & can do it at a 100 + miles . Maybe before they know what hit them.

Allen, good point. A new perspective to an amphibious landing. Interesting concept.

I have several questions, oh mighty ones:

1. How many helos can lift off the deck at one time?
2. If they are making a helo assault, how many helos could be lost per wave, given they are going to hear and see the helos from a distance?
3. How is all the support equipment going ashore if it is stored aboard the LHA-6? Helo, but again, how much equipment will be lost during a helo assault?

Just saying.

gunny like any landing thing's will be lost. she will not be alone. the items onboard will be of the type that will go in aircraft. she will also carry her own air support in the f-35. I think the para's on d -day thought that 70% would be lost.
