This is my favorite picture of Tarawa. Weird, I know. I think it is because I walked here many, many times during my years on Tarawa. This is how I went to berthing, chow hall, on and off the ship, haircuts, ship store, after I buried two shipmates at sea, and more.

Do you have a favorite picture of Tarawa?

Of ALL the compartments I had to walk through during Sound & Security watch before DCC watch, this had to be my favorite as well for a different reason.....MIDRATS! Lmao!

There are so many favorite pictures, it's hard to choose. So if I had to choose (1) or (2), here they are. The one above is obviously during flight ops. I was so excited to be able to be outside to witness this and take pictures. Believe it or not, I shot this and many others with my 110 pocket camera. Some of us remember those......Lol!

The one below is from my Mom. She took this one when she flew in from Illinois to see me after we pulled into San Diego from WESTPAC '86.

Great shots, John. I spent a lot of time while aboard in the isolated empty space that we converted into an electronics repair shop while at sea. Itwas there where I slept after our compartment was taken for the refugees we took onboard during "Operation Boat People".
