I would like to get my first gun since high school. I am not sure what I should get first. Should I get a rifle or a pistol? Why? Are there better brands of guns? Should I consider how easy it is to get ammunition for it? Do all of you have gun safes?

As for one brand better than another, is Ford better than Chevy?
As for pistol or rifle first, depends on your primary reason for getting one.
As for availability of ammo, online purchase works good, depending on the gun laws where you live.
As for the safe, most have some secure storage method, I have a 5 year old grandson living with me, so a safe was a must.

Rick What gun did you have or still have since H.S.? If you havent shot in awhile check into a local gun shop and sign up for gun safety classes, plus learn all the rules and regulations for your state, I have so many different types and being so they are used for different types of shooting, shoot a hand gun, a rifle, and a shotgun and start small, like a 38 Cal. 22 cal, or 380, then do the same thing with shotguns, 410, 20, 16, 12, and the big boy is a 10 guage. I love shooting them all but my hand guns and shotguns are most fun for me, I have many rifles as well, 243, 30-06, 30-30, 762-54 , 303, 7.5, and many more , love shooting these too, just get educated on them, learn all the safety, buy a gun safe, and secure your ammo , and believe me its fun even if you dont hunt, target shooting to me is like throwing darts but only with bullets, I cant dance as you saw in the video, so its my hobby

David, thanks for your suggestions! I will do everything you suggested here. I will start after the holidays. I will start a thread on my progress and keep you and Keith informed. I'll include pictures and videos. I hope I am allowed to take pictures and videos at the gun range.
