R.Lee Ermey, still scares the hell out of me,   funny as hell, but damn, to have him as a D.I ,,,

While the Corps' boot camp is not like you see here, it was a perfect depiction of boot camp in the late 60s when I went through. R Lee added very little if any to our indoctrination.

keith , i am glad  men like yourself , went through the training you did.  I admire your determination.   I cannot speak for the marines, but i have had a nephew in the army and one in the navy in the last 3 years, and can tell you , having year books and photographers on the endurance course, or eliminating most of the marching (navy)  has in my opinion done  great injustice to our armed services....

sorry for jumping off topic.... had to vent ..

uva7, saw no venting there. When you destroy tradition, you destroy the base of the institution. Best example I can think of is back in the late 70s when I accumulated my year plus sea time, was when we crossed the line. Just prior to the crossing there was the razing between the wogs and the shellbacks. Then we had our initiation. What a great time that was. Then after we cleaned up the ship, we chowed down of steak and lobster. Now the initiations we had back then have been stopped because it is considered "hazing".

I could go on, but you get the idea.

Take out the hitting of recruits and it is still accurate or was in 1990.
