The jar doesn't come until after graduation from boot camp when we finally EARN the title MARINE. If you have any question, how many saw the Medal of Honor Ceremony today for a young Marine who jumped on a live hand granade in AFG?

While it is true the Marine Corps is a part of the Dept of the Navy. We are, however, better known for being the Mens Dept.

If my crusty ole memory serves, jarhead, comes from the high and tight haircut we are known for. The term leatherneck comes from our dress blue uniform of centuries past. The neck portion oif the uniform was made from a molded leather to withstand the strike if a sword during hand-to-hand combat with swords.

My first recruiter was Navy, but since I was still in high school and just 17, he said come back after I graduated. The Marine Recruiter said come on in. Which leads to 30 June 2014, when I will have been retured 26 years after retiring from active duty at age 37.
